Green Space and Play area

Flagship Playspace

Yeovil Recreation Centre boasts the area's Flagship Playspace, initially built in 2009 and re-modelled with a new pirate ship in 2019.  It was funded predominately by the Big Lottery Fund, Central Government, and South Somerset District Council.

The designs incorporated ideas from consultation with children and young people.

The Playspace allows children to explore, develop, use their imagination, engage with other people, and learn new skills in an informal play environment.

The Playspace includes:

  • Tree House walkways with rope bridges and net tunnels
  • Slide
  • Pirate ship
  • Skull and snake themed tunnel slides
  • Aerial runways/zipline
  • Tyre Swing
  • Sand pit
  • Water hand pump and trough feature

Swings (including Mirage Inclusive swing seat harness – available from the Galley), see-saw, and toddler play frame

Story-telling fire pit / mini amphitheatre feature

The Playspace is a free open access facility, which anyone can use.

Multi Use Games Area

The Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) is a tarmacadam area that can be used for informal sport or activity.

The area has sports markings for football and basketball; it has recessed goal mouths at each end, with basketball hoops above.

The MUGA is a free open access facility which cannot be used for sole use by any group or organisation.

Dog Walkers

The site also has wide open green space ideal for local dog walkers, we have multiple dog bins on site that are both red and green, and ask that all dog mess is put in these by the dog owner/walker.
